The Hong Kong Palace Museum is a new world-class cultural landmark, showcasing over 900 priceless treasures from the Palace Museum in Beijing.
The Museum is located in the heart of Hong Kong Island, within the Central and Western Districts. The Museum is housed in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility covering a total area of 70,000 square meters. The Museum is open to the public from 10am to 6pm5. Admission to the Museum is free for all visitors.
The museum has four floors of exhibition space, with each floor dedicated to a different theme. The first floor is dedicated to the history of the Palace Museum in Beijing, while the second floor focuses on the imperial collections of paintings and calligraphy.
The museum was designed by renowned Hong Kong architect Rocco Yim and features an innovative “vertical central axis” that connects the different floors and galleries.
The Museum also has a gift shop and a café on the first floor, offering a range of light snacks and drinks, as well as a selection of hot meals. The gift shop sells various souvenirs, such as traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy scrolls. The museum is located in the heart of the Forbidden City and is surrounded by a number of other important buildings, such as the Imperial Ancestral Temple and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility.
The opening exhibitions include 'The Making of Masterpieces: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Palace Museum', 'Grand Gallop: Art and Culture of the Horse', and 'From Dawn to Dusk: Life in the Forbidden City'.
The exhibitions will be on display until September 30th, 2019. The Forbidden City is the world's largest palace complex and home to the Palace Museum. The complex covers 74 hectares 980 surviving buildings, including 8,886 rooms. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. The Palace Museum is home to over 1.8 million artifacts, including paintings, ceramics, jades, and other precious objects. The exhibitions at the museum showcase the breadth and depth of the museum's collection. The exhibitions are organized around themes that highlight the history and culture of China. The museum is open to the public from 9am to 5pm.
